Heating & AC Tax Credit

Now is the best time to install a high-efficiency HVAC system using either a heat pump or furnace and air conditioning combo thanks to the Economic Stimulus Bill (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009).

The Stimulus Bill was signed by President Obama on February 17, 2009 and includes special tax credits for increasing the energy efficiency and performance of homes and commercial buildings.

Under the plan, qualified HVAC systems can provide a tax credit of up to $1,500.00 (if the total system cost is $5,000.00 or more). The code limits the credit to 30% of the total cost of the improvement.

There is some belief that the code may be modified to include a second credit for 2010 (ask your tax professional for an update on the plan). Currently, the $1,500.00 credit can be applied to more than one energy-efficient improvement and can be spread over the 2009 and 2010 tax years.

New high-efficiency systems pay for themselves in energy savings and help ease the burden on our environment. Add the tax credit incentives, and you have the perfect reason to upgrade to a new HVAC system.
